Communicating Effectively

There are more ways to communicate than ever – and more ways to fail. With the options of email, WhatsApp, teams, video and telephone conferencing adding to the traditional methods of telephone, letters, reports and meetings, we can be forgiven for getting it wrong. After all, it is seldom what we say, but the way we say it.

This 2 day course is designed to help delegates develop a planned and strategic approach to interpersonal communications.

We look at the range of options in the context of typical organisational concerns and challenges. The delegates then use these to plan and execute communications in a lively set of exercises and roleplays.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  • Judge the merits and applications of different interpersonal communication media

  • Devise a practical communications strategy

  • Link different communication media to produce a powerful overall message

  • Communicate more confidently and effectively

Key Topics

  • Essential communication theory – what happens when we communicate?

  • Interpersonal communication – verbal and non verbal

  • Written media – emails, text and reports

  • Face-to-face communication – meetings and presentations

  • Remote communication – telephone, video-conferencing; telephone-conferencing

Course Preparation

We recommend delegates bring along good, and not so good, examples of their own recent communications, or where the communication is not written down, be prepared to share their experiences.
